First trip 2011

March 3, 2012

Deception Pass State Park

Camping with a young family is fun, however when the grandparents offer to take the boys for a week we jumped at the opportunity to take our own holiday, kid-less.

Since we had to end the trip in Cranbrook to pick up the boys, we decided to travel through the States and explore along the way.  First stop was Whidbey Island and Deception Pass State Park.

Deception Pass Trail

Coeur d'Alene

We walked the beach, then looped around the park on trails, so used to walking with the boys I had forgotten how much ground we used to cover.  i hadn’t been to Deception Pass State Park since I was young, and had forgotten how beautiful the park is.

The next stop was Coeur d’Alene.  I can’t remember ever being here, a beautiful town set on a large lake.  With a climate like the Okanagan, the dry heat made it a great place for a swim.  We walked around Tubbs Hill, into town and around the board walk out on the lake.  The town was great, and we plan to return and spend more time here.  Just outside of the town there are lots of waterfalls, trails, and other natural attractions, none of which we found time for this trip.

After lunch it was time to hit the road, and meet up with the boys in Cranbrook.  This  being the longest we had ever been away from them, and we were both excited to see them, and head out for a family camping trip.
