2011 Bear Creek Camping

April 1, 2012

Playing in Okanogan Lake

After spending the night a Kentucky-Allenye Provincial Park, it was time to pack up and head for our reservation at Bear Creek Provincial Park.  I was only at this campsite once before when I was really young, we arrived by speed boat and I don’t remember venturing past the campsite that had come to visit, so I didn’t know what to expect.

The sun was out, however luckily It was still cool for an August weekend in the Okanogan, making it perfect beach weather for us.  Our camp spot was surrounded by trees, making it a fairly private spot and shielded from any wind off the lake.  At the back of our spot a small path lead to the lake, the water stayed very swallow for a long ways, making it perfect to enjoy the water with little kids.  The campground had showers, flush toilets, large playground, large grassy area and a sandy beach.  Kids were everywhere; it was defiantly a family destination.

View for trail along Beer Creek

The boys had a great time here; they played in the lake with their toy boats and rode their bikes.  As a family we explored the campsite (stopping of course at the playground), we hiked bear creek trails along all the waterfalls and great views across the lake towards Kelowna.

This was the first time the boys seemed comfortable in the water.  It was great to see them lose their apprehension of the water.  This new found confidence also made them harder to watch, instead of being stuck me in the lake, they were now comfortable to wander away, causing me to constanly work to bring them back beside me.  We have a few more years before playing in the water is relaxing.

Finishing up the hike

Although not a wilderness spot, it was a great site for a young family with a dry climate and lots of fun for kids.  There are a few other similar campsites in the area I am hoping to explore in the future.

We also spent some time at the main park in Kelowna, boys had a great time there.  The beach, walkway, water park and playground were perfect for them.

Looks like a nice spot for camping with children. I was in Kelona a number of years ago and it was VERY hot there at the time. So glad you had comfortable weather!

We did have a lot of fun I hope I can create a great childhood for them, and a strong platform for an amazing life. Still figuring out how.

This looks so fun! I always worry that if/when I start a family in the future, it’ll put an end to my traveling and outdoor exploring…but it looks like you’ve found a way to balance both. Awesome. : )

Kids change the outdoor experience for sure, but my boys love it outside. They also improved the outdoor experience in some ways, which I was not expecting.

Thanks for checking out my blog.
