One Day of Winter

March 31, 2012

The boys sledding

This year it snowed a few times, and the temperature did drop more than usual, however we only really got one snowfall where the boys got to go play in the snow.  The rest of the time it was just enough to tease them, start snowing to quickly melt away.

With so little time in the snow we made the most of it, with the toboggan, snow fort, snowball fight and a mini snowball.  Something magical about it when the snow starts to fall as I can feel my inner child jumping up and down with excitement in anticipation (the adult is dreading driving on the roads where we live).

Kids snow fort

The boys did well with one toboggan (the one I used as a child).  For the longest while they rode the sled down together, it was fun to watch.  At first I would get them set up at the top of the hill, then give them a little push before sprinting to the bottom to make sure they didn’t crash into the fence at the bottom.  If I was far enough ahead I would even try and fit in a picture.  Once they got the hang of it I waited at the bottom as they walked back up the hill and got themselves set up together and back down.

After a while the sun came out and we moved to building a snow fort.  When that started to get boring we moved on to a snow ball fight, them teaming up on me.  It was a great day, a few more snow days each year would be nice.

My boys didn’t get to play in the snow at all this year! They kept asking me when winter was coming– into late February. Glad that your little ones got a chance to frolic in the white stuff– some of my favorite childhood memories of are of endless snowy days.

Agreed, I also have some great memories of the snow. Hoping to make it to the mountains soon before winter leaves them too.

I love snow days. And I can relate to that war between the inner child and inner adult on the days the snow comes.
