About

When I was younger outdoor adventures were just a normal part of my life, but as life happened this was slowly pushed aside to make more money and focus on the things that were suppose to matter.

Having kids shifted everything and brought me back to building a life that excites me.  I am lucky as I love my career, however I had neglected connecting with nature.  Committing to incorporating the outdoors into our life, and no real idea what this meant with young children started us on this journey.

This blog is about the journey, and for me our boler trailer has become a symbol of the new style of adventure I plan to experience with the family, fun, simple and different.

As we live in British Columbia, Canada, most of  our adventures are around the southern part of the Province.  With so many Provincial Parks, Federal Parks, Forestry sites and just open wilderness we should have no problem finding new adventures.

You can also read my random thoughts about money and life on my other blog here.

Thank you for stopping by my blog, and please feel free to share your adventures!

Neat blog! It’s neat to read about your outdoor adventures with your kids. We’re an outdoor loving couple hoping to start a family soon and your stories give me hope that we’ll be able to continue playing outside as a family.

    I’ll keep reading 🙂

Thanks for reading marcelledanielle ! Having kids completely changes the outdoor experience, however in a lot of ways it is for the better, it just took me a bit to see it. It’s amazing, maybe I will soon get to read about your family adventures.

I have enjoyed your posts, Plan to start climbing again this year, this probably wouldn’t have made it on the list if it wasn’t for all the great climbing posts I have been reading.

    • March 20, 2012 6:16 am

You’re lucky to have amazing rock climbing nearby too! I haven’t made it out to Squamish yet, but hope to in the next few years.

      • March 20, 2012 8:35 am

        Squamish is amazing.

I used to spend a lot of time a Light house park. It was great to get outdoors and practice, the cliff is on right on the ocean, you have to walk through a beautiful forest full of huge trees and it is only minutes out of town. Amazing spot. Then we would drive to Squamish on the weekends.

Vancouver Island also has some amazing climbing, and lots of Mountains to Summit.

I think I need to start climbing again.

I love this! You can’t keep me inside once the weather’s above freezing, and I hope to pass this on to my future family. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Thanks crweatherford. I think the enjoyment of the outdoors is a great gift.

We are lucky living where we do, the winter hits our local mountains, but it rarely gets cols enough to snow (not always sure rain is better).

I enjoyed your climbing post. I plan to start getting the kids climbing soon, I think they are ready, I just need to catch up.

Thanks for following. I agree, it was great to see your blog, great outdoor pictures with your little one.

  6. March 21, 2012 4:58 pm

Thanks for following my blog! I just spent six weeks in Vancouver, which is the most I’d spent in a single shot in my hometown after having been away for almost twenty years. There were many things in Vancouver I’ve missed …

    • March 21, 2012 5:46 pm

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Vancouver has lots of outdoor stuff to keep us busy between trips. As the family gets older I am hoping to explore more outside north america. Look forward to more outdoor pictures on your blog.

Hey, I love your blog. I was wondering if we could advertise each others sites. I have posted a link to your site on mine at http://www.thefamilycamper.com and was wondering if you would do the same for me. Thank you, and keep up the great posts.

Hi Jonnychapps. Thank you for posting my link! Glad you liked my blog. I am still new to wordpress and not sure how to add links. I will look into how I can do this.

Nice blog…you from BC? Love the family outings!

    • March 25, 2012 7:09 pm

Yes we live in BC. Love exploring back roads, that is one of the things that caught my attention with your blog. I was a little reluctant to follow, as I sold my sport bike and keep trying to convince myself a dual sport bike is not a good idea. Looks like you have had some amazing trips.

      • March 25, 2012 7:17 pm

Well…you know what I would say about DS bikes but I will shut my mouth. Went out to Chilliwack today for the DS BC Spring Ride up Vedder Mountain. Will be posting some pics and videos of the ride. We hit snow which is never a really good thing on two wheels. I had issues but survived. Keep up the great blog my fellow BC’er!

      • March 26, 2012 9:20 am

Look forward to more pictures of local roads! I miss my motorcycle, and am sure my next bike will be a DS.

        Thanks for following.

Thanks for checking out and following my blog! I enjoyed looking through yours. I had many an adventure as a child in a boler,…brought back cool memories.

  10. March 28, 2012 10:41 am

Hi! Thank you so much for following my blog, great blog you have here 🙂

  12. March 29, 2012 6:27 pm

When I was a boy punishment was being called into the house and being made to sit in front of a television. How things have changed! When young I spent every free minute outside and have continued to do so throughout my entire life. I don’t rock climb or mountain bike because I find just being surrounded by nature is enough-it’s hard to improve on or enhance that which is already perfect. You are wise getting your kids interested in nature at an early age, I think. Thank you for following my blog recently.

    • March 29, 2012 6:34 pm

It sounds like you have found a connection to nature that seems to be absent for the majority. I agree there is something about being in the outdoors in nature that is amazing, and I am hoping to pass it on to my boys (although they do seem to like TV too)

  13. March 29, 2012 6:36 pm

went on a great Spring Newbie ADV ride this weekend….BC is the best place on earth when the sun shines! 🙂 I blogged my ride fyi 😉

    • March 29, 2012 6:39 pm

I saw the posts. Looks like a great place to ride (and a little slippery). Your blog may be expensive, as the more you post, the more I want to get a bike.

      • March 29, 2012 6:43 pm

believe me I know….we are most likely going to be getting new bikes this fall…just waiting to see what BMW may or may not do….LOL

I’ll definitely share it with my husband. He’s the cyclist (road, mountain, and moto) in the family. I grew up in Washington state and hope to get back to the PNW for more than just vacation – your blog might inspire us to get back there sooner, thank you!

Thank you. It is fun to get out and explore. I have many great memories of the Okanagan, and the climate is great for camping. Will be spending much more time up that way this year as well. Would love to have the view you do of the lake.

Thank you so much for the Liebster Award! What a great honor! I greatly enjoy our posts as well and have been daydreaming about taking Mace to find the spirit bear! What a life changing trip that would be for us all…I am currently deciding which blogs I would also like to nominate, but I have a question…would you please help? How do I know how many followers each blog has, some blog say so and some don’t? I am new to blogging!
    Thank you again so much,
    Stina from thisamaceinglife

You never know, two families could charter a very nice boat to see the Spirit bears:)

I have no idea how you see how many followers. I guessed, if they had similar activity to me then they would be of similar size?

Thanks for your appobation of my posting on riding the Lower Seymour Canyon Reserve. Have you ever taken you kids to ride at the bike park lower down to the south of the riding stables and to the east of the river. Great for kids you sons’ ages. I will have three of my four grandsons there this summer.

    • April 9, 2012 4:58 pm

I loved riding it with my parents growing up, and it is on the list for this year. Great post.

Hi, Thanks for stopping by my Blog, it is greatly appreciated. I am in the learning stages but had much more to share, I look forward to seeing you more in the future.

By the way, LOVE the trailer.

    • April 18, 2012 3:52 pm

Loved the pictures of the old sailing ship.

The trailer should be fun, thanks for checking out my blog.

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get the social media links on the right side of the page, thought it looked great like that?

      • April 18, 2012 5:15 pm

I have a couple different ones, Facebook which is a Widget for WordPress, you should find that in the Widget section. Then there is Feedjit, which is a real time visitor log. So that you can see where people are checking your blog out at. This one I had to search for, try googling Feedjit for WordPress in HTML. Then place the code in a Text Widget.

I hope that answers your question, if not let me know.

      • April 18, 2012 6:08 pm

Great, thanks! You site looks great, not at all like you are new to it.

  25. April 21, 2012 7:39 am

Can you send me your contact information? I’m working on a project and want to talk to an ‘adventurous family’ at some point. My email should come up in your Comments.

  26. April 23, 2012 12:37 am

Thanks for the “like” on our BuddingRenovators blog. We do a lot of camping around Australia but I lived in Canada for 3 years so I know the wealth of wonderful scenery you can choose from as you “boler” your way around. Continue having fun!

    • April 23, 2012 9:01 am

Thanks for your comment. Australia looks like an amazing place to explore. I have a list of places there I want to see.
